How do i ship my laptop for repair?

December 8th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

my laptops motherboard is messed up and i found a ebay service offered by paramount computers that lets me send my laptop to them for repair my question is does it cost money for me to send it? if so is it generally expensive to ship stuff like a laptop? do you just go to a post office and ask them to ship it, and give them money?
i am confused!

You of course have to pay for cost of transportation, its only free if you drive to the Repair shop and drop it off [not considering the cost of repair \ fuel to drive].

So Yes – you have to pay for shipping, always make sure in case of expensive electronics you get a box with the words FRAGILE on it, as well as make sure its a registered mail where they need to sign on receiving the item. As well as having a tracking number.

As for the cost of shipping its based on weight and added services in this case tracking and registered mail.

Yes you pay for shipping at the post office. You will also want to contact this paramount computers and about a Product ID \ RMA number before sending it. Most of them require you to put this number on the box – so they can track who its from.

You will also want to write down the serial number of your Laptop and keep it with you. So you know its your laptop that is returned to you. Ideally your MAC ID number too

Well the cost will be based on a few things such as size and weight mostly. The sad thing is because laptops are fragile you will need to bubble wrap and both (more weight and size). Additionally computers have poisons like mercury and combustibles like lithium ion batters all of which will marginally increase the cost. The last item is the speed at which you want it shipped.

I BELIEVE I shipped a laptop that was 15.4 inches (standard) about two years ago and it cost me around $20.

Please note you may also have to pay return shipping.

Be careful when sending your computer to be repaired. If its through ebay make sure some communication is logged bought/paid through there or you could get ripped.

If they just say ‘yeah send me your computer here. Then you go to the post office and YOU pay for shipping to whatever address they supply and it could be some abandoned place where they just get free computers and you get ripped off not only your computer but the moeny you paid to ship it.

But in good cases, see if shipping is included maybe you pay for shipping there they’ll pay to ship it back or they could charge you for both & services. in this case its usually cheaper to a: take it local or b: just buy a new computer (especially if its old) motherboards are like the engines of a computer. Most expensive unit usually 1-200 or more just for that. you add that up + the shipping etc.. youre spending 2-300 dollars already, you can buy a newer laptop /netbook with better specs than the one you have in most cases.

All the above are true also I just wanted to include most computers have a 1 year manufacturer warranty plus lots of places offer extended service plans if you have any of these. you should contact support on your situation and if it is covered you will pay absolutely nothing under the warranty and they will usually send you a box and packaging as well as directions on where to drop it off. Good luck and hopes this helps. If you do not have a service plan or or over your warranty then yes all other responders here have given you all the insight you need. good luck hope this helps.

    No. Dont ship.
Ask that eBayer if he is in your location. If not, 100% No
This eBayer may be honest, may do good job on repair. But whats about shipping cost twice back & forward? Plus may be damaged too.
Search on Craigslist or Yelp for on locally, trusful repairer & good price.
