what is the best free PC registry cleaner?
I’ve had my laptop for around 4 years and its really starting to get bogged down. I thought maybe it was viruses or spyware that was causing it, but after multiple scans with Webroot and MalwareBytes it has shown no infections. I’ve heard that the registry may need to be cleaned to get the system working faster again- can anyone recommend a good, free registry cleaner?
Ccleaner is pretty nice, but Comodo Registry Cleaner picks up a lot more.
Comodo is new to the market and is free, after scanning with ccleaner, run the comodo, you’ll be surprised with how much it pick sup on it’s first run that ccleaner missed.
After running either of those, i would suggest running "CleanUP!" It is by farsuperiorr to Ccleaner in removing temp files. it can be found at http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?Itemid=223&id=29&option=com_content&task=view
Defragging the hard drive is also a good idea when the registry and temp files are removed. The built in windows Defrag utilities work pretty well, but i enjoy defraggler as a free utility.
Run the registry cleaners until they quit finding errors, 1 pass does not do it normaly.
ccleaner.com and there is a regestry setting

registry cleaners dont do anything , go to start – run – regedit – your are in the registry – you can learn to edit the registry yourself without the need of a program

I decided to download your software since you claimed they are WAY better then ccleaner. I downloaded and installed both Comodo system cleaner and cleanup!
After installing them i ran ccleaner clean+registry.
Then ran comodo, it said i had 214 registry problems O.o
so i decided to look into it. you know what most of them were? install sources…… all that is is a registry entry that says where you installed the software from. I guess you dont NEED it, but its not a problem…….
Ok then some other problems listed were file extensions, and uninstall locations for some stuff to do with internet explorer.
Soooo tell me how this is FAR SUPERIOR to ccleaners registry cleaner? none of the things listed were actual problems, just things not absolutely NEEDED to run windows or other programs. CCleaner only removes actual problems in the registry like things left behind by old software and etc. Also i didnt like how comodo did a scan with out ANY permission at all to do so when i installed it.
So just because it gives you more numbers then ccleaner it means its better lol? thats like Advanced system care 3 saying on a new windows install that i had 3 trojans LOL on a fresh install! so that much mean its the best malware detection because im sure every other scanner would have came up with 0. Its called false positives. either giving complete fake results or results that arnt completely true. like labeling cookies as malware, or like this program labeling install sources as problems….
Ok i also ran cleanup! there is no scan option… no way to select specific things you do/dont want to delete(yes you can select history or w/e, if you want to save history to say yahoo.com too bad). It lets you keep specific cookies(so does ccleaner).
Also i looked into the through clean option, it selects remove bookmarks and a whole bunch of other stuff….. people who dont look before they do thing will remove MUCH more then they want to. Also ccleaner lets you securely delete with 1,3,7 or 35 passes. this only gives 1 option i dont know what it sets it to. Very ugly GUI, not much customization on cleaning options.
"Supports all popular browsers. CleanUp! provides full support for the three most popular browsers used under Windows: Internet Explorer (versions 1.x-6.x), Netscape Navigator/Communicator (versions 1.x-7.x), Mozilla (1.x), Firefox (1.x) and Opera (versions 2.x-7.x)." (quote from their site) ccleaner has option for like EVERY browser even ones ive never heard of.(also notice cleanup has no chrome support).
As for removing more temporary files, the only thing that either these programs you listed picked up on that ccleaner didnt, was cheat engine temp files.
Ok so in conclusion comodo just lies and labels not completely necessary registry entries as "problems" and both that and the cleanup! program only remove cheat engine temp files. Cleanup! gives no way to scan or pick and choose specific history you wish to keep. has secure delete, but i have no idea how many passes it does.
CCleaner has much browser support and more options (like wiping free space for example) and flush dns cache from ccleaner and lots of other little things. Also it lets you stop startup programs and delete the startup entries (yes you can do this from msconfig, but not everyone knows how to do that. this program makes it easy for anyone). CCleaner is much more user friendly with a decent looking GUI.
Either you dont know anything or were using a VERY old version of ccleaner when comparing these software. If you REALLY thought comodo was better because it told you there were so many problems that were missed by ccleaner and you didnt even look to see what they were, and you have been a computer tech for 5 years, that would make me your supervisor…
(this test was conducted with all the most up to date versions of ccleaner, comodo, and cleanup! and all after running ccleaner once)
