Can only start my computer in safe mode running xp. I t goes through startup normally untill after win logo?
Then i get blank screen.Have run Norton’s 360 and comes up clean.The first time this happened i ran xp repair and all went well for about six days after all updates but has happened again.AIso. have vista on the same computer and it runs fine.What thing can i try in safe mode to try and fix this.Thankyou
If you suspect the updates they can be rolled back, either indivudially or you could use system restore to roll back to the last repair. Also have you tried last known good config in case of driver errors. You did not mention any hardware of software changes other than the updates. So re run the repair to get up and running and then track changes (take a system restore point when working ok)
The blank screen is it blue with stop errors or just plain blank ? If it is plain blank check the display settings and turn down screen resolution also check or reinstall video drivers.
It might also be worth uninstalling the Norton 360 (if you have cd or can still download key) and the once XP functioning do a clean install (i.e either use a norton removal tool or purge the registry manually – be careful and back up reg prior to making alterations).
