Does a registry repair work? if so why can i run it once&run it again and still have errors?

i downloaded a stomp soft reg.repair, i can run it and clean all errors it finds and then run it again imediatly after the prior time and there will be almost as many errors the second time. Im thinking this is a rip-off….anyone know?

You figured it out. It’s a ripoff. If you really want a safe and quick registry cleaner, and to clean up the mess made by the stompsoft registry repair, then uninstall that mess and go to Microsoft’s Live OneCare Cleanup Scan. It’s free, fast and safe.

Most of these advertised "essential" tools are rip-offs. You are lucky you just downloaded a useless program, it could just as easily have been spyware and given out your life history to the whole world.

I can’t vouch for StompSoft in particular, and many people don’t advise registry repair tools as they can cause more damage than they fix, but in practice fixing some errors will often result in other entries now being in error.

    IT could be.

Here’s a couple of FREE cleaners,

    http://www.filehippo.com

    CCleaner, I use it daily

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Lexun RegScrubXP, I use once a week

Never had any trouble with either one.

You might want to run a FREE on line scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com to make sure there’s nothing else on your comptuer.

Something to read and maybe put in your favorites (bookmarks). Good to know information

Well, I’m assuming you’re using Windows XP. I’ve never had to do anything to "repair" my registry and I do a lot of stuff with my computer. I would just leave it alone. I’ve used optimization tools in the past and it made changes that I couldn’t undo. It was really annoying.

Unless you are a super pro, I wouldn’t mess with the registry settings. On the otherhand, when I was using Windows 98, I fixed my registry all the time with Norton Systemworks.
