What’s the point in trading in an old banger for one of those eco panda things?
why would someone want a new car instead of the faithful retainer that is car tax exempt, doesn’t cost much to repair or service and runs ok.
4995 on the road eh? at oh yes 16.9 apr after the first yr, isn’t that just encouraging more debt to be built up 3years down the road?
The only people who would use the scheme are those who were going to, and who could afford a new car anyway.
Can you imagine someone who has driven old bangers all their lives, whose probably driving an m reg escort, having enough cash for a new car?
No neither can I, and what about the people with a large family (like me), I need a seven seater, how can I get one of them with an engine less than 1000cc?
Course I could always but two hybrids and pay 2 lots of insurance and emit 2 lots of emissions.
Nah!, I’ll stick with my old banger as well!
cheers
Could be fuel consumption as prices are high, congestion charges (exempt if hybrid).

I’m wondering what kind of taxes will be imposed on the drivers that aren’t driving a hybrid car.
And then when you’re talking about a fuel efficient car, you’re also talking about it being lighter in weight, and passengers having more injuries if in an accident.
In general, people are waiting months for a hybrid car to come off the assembly lines.
And they generally start out around $26K.
In these economic times, who can afford a new car payment?
And isn’t that monopolizing the car market?
I think they would be better off spending the money on developing alternative fuel sources.
I know the city buses run on natural gas, so why can’t cars too?

We just scrapped our car after thinking long and hard about opting for the £2000 bribe. We were really put off at the prospect of debt, so instead we bought another older car that we could afford to pay cash for. It was that idea of increased debt that was the clincher.
The whole scheme is a mess.

As long as a car passes it’s MOT and emissions test I see no problem, but as a scheme to invigorate the car industry it is pretty weak, if it were to be offered on British built cars only and 0% interest then it may well be a good idea.

Because our government says so. Apparently, they know how to run our lives better than we do.
