How can I get the guns that are registered to me returned to me?
My soon to be ex, a convicted felon, has taken all the firearms out of our marital home and "stashed" them somewhere. Some of these are registered in my name and I want them returned. Local police say they are marital property and will not get involved. Who can help me get them returned?
It’s not going to happen. Report them as stolen, so you won’t be responsible if he uses them in crime. Move on. Cops don’t care and don’t want to get involved. The last thing they want to be involved in is giving people guns. It took me seven trips to three police stations to get the LAPD to return a stolen gun to me. And I think they were only willing to turn it over because it was broken beyond repair.
I suggest contacting the NRA/ILA. They might be able to help you.

File a criminal charge for theft. It might not work, but it is worth a try. List for them everyone you know that the felon associates with. If they find them, they have to return them to you. If they are pawned, they will have the serial numbers. That is assuming you took the time to record the numbers as any responsible gun owner should have done.

They cannot be marital property because he cannot be in possession of weapons. So, either you didn’t tell the truth when you applied for your FOID card or you had those weapons previous to the marriage. You need to prove legal ownership with registration, serial numbers makes and models of the weapons and report them as lost or mis-layed property if they will not accept stolen. At the end of the day, those weapons are registered to you and you are responsible for their whereabouts and usage.

If they are handguns it shouldn’t be a problem, long guns on the other hand…..
Were they really yours? You sound just a little spiteful and vindictive. No wonder why it’s soon to be.

"Soon to be ex"? As in divorce? Your divorce attorney should be made aware of this. While the firearms might be considered marital assets, they can be used as deadly weapons. Depending on what state you live in, if a felony were to be committed using one of your firearms, you could be held responsible in a civil court, if not criminally. Even if your attorney can’t get the weapons returned to you immediately, a judge can order that your ex produce the items in question, then issue an order forbidding the sale or transfer of them until such time as a court issues a decision.

How could he have taken "all the firearms out of our marital home" , when he`s prohibited by law to live in a dwelling that contains firearms of any sort ??
It`s a federal law punishable by 10 years imprisonment for him if its found out there were guns in the house while he lived there !! You could threaten to contact the FBI agent in your area if he doesn`t return them …………..
