What is XP AntiMalware and how can I get rid of it?

November 30th, 2012 5 comments

I don’t know much about PCs. A friend of mine has XP AntiMalware on her computer, and short of taking it in to a repair shop, is there a way to get rid of it? There are a lot of sites out there that claim its malware, but each of those sites asks you to register with them and download something. I’m very suspicious that you end up downloading something else malicious.

1. Click Start->Run (or WinKey+R). Input: “command”. Press Enter or click OK.
2. Type “notepad” as shown in the image below and press Enter. Notepad will open.
3. Copy and past the following text into Notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[-HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClasses.e…
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassessecf…
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTsecfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exeshellopencomman…
@=””%1? %*”[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exe]
@=”exefile”
“Content Type”=”application/x-msdownload”
4. Save file as “exefix.reg” (without quotation-marks) to your Desktop.
NOTE: choose Save as type: All files
5. Double-click to open exefix.reg. Click “Yes” for Registry Editor prompt window.
6. Download an anti-spyware like Spyware Doctor, update it and run a full system scan.

Stabilize the System by Removing Spyware

March 2nd, 2011 No comments

The installation of Spyware on the computer is initiated by visiting a website, downloading a mail, an attachment or just inadvertently clicking on a download you like that brings with it a hidden program such as Spyware. Once this Spyware is installed on your system it begins to go about its malicious business of collecting your personal information and waiting for you to access the Internet so it can mail it to its master. Since

spyware is designed to work in the background, you may never know of its existence until it is too late. This is why it is a good idea to install and run anti Spyware at regular intervals to detect the existence of Spyware as well as to remove it. Then the remnants will have to be removed from the system registry by running registry cleaner software such as Computer Spyware Remover or free Microsoft Spyware Adware remover software.

How Does The Registry Slow Down?

The system registry is constantly recording all the activity of the operating system including the Internet Explorer and the sites that it is accessing. Spyware being the busy program it is, is designed to be not only one that takes up a lot of the processor time by operating in the background but also one that delays the front-end programs and services.

All the activity is recorded in the registry. This makes the registry swell out of proportion. Therefore the system must be constantly scanned for Spyware and it removed using any of the free Spyware Adware Removal tools. Now the registry is constantly being accessed for information by the operating system. Every time the registry is requested for information it starts to scan the entire record for the information. As long as the registry has a few thousand entries, it will fetch the information fairly easily but when the registry grows by thousands of entries, that too useless information, it will slow down to a crawl. When this happens, it is definitely time for action.

Download Registry Cleaner And Anti Spyware

Microsoft Windows Spyware Free Download is one of the Spyware registry cleaner software that can be accessed from the Internet. Yahoo Spyware removal and Kazaa Spyware Remover are the other reliable registry Spyware cleaner software that can do a good job of deleting the Spyware from the registry and making the system run more efficiently. When the redundant information is removed from the registry, the registry has a lot of empty spaces.

This too can slow the system down. Some registry cleaners defragment the registry as well. This is the process of bringing the registry entries closer together by taking up the empty spaces. Using a free Spyware Adware removal utility will greatly improve the operating of the system at the same time stabilizing the operating system.

Do You Have a Slow Running Computer? Fix it Today For Free!

February 24th, 2011 11 comments

There is no such thing as irritating as a slow running computer especially when you know from your technical support and from your speed check that you are getting the correct speed for your Internet connection. What can cause a slow running computer then?

In fixing a slow running computer, it is important to isolate the problem and determine whether it is single or multiple issues. Since your Internet connection is already ruled out as a possible source of slow connectivity, you may now focus on the hardware itself, your computer. More often than not, these hard drive problems are resolved by maintenance software programs that you can download from the Internet.

There are at least five (5) fundamental components that can slow down the performance of your computer:

1. Hard Drive in a Mess. It is necessary that you keep your hard drive clutter-free as this is one cause for a slow running computer. Your windows operating system has a built-in utility that can clear unnecessary files from your hard drive. All you have to do is to run the disk clean up system utility from windows.

To run disk clean up:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Clean up

2. Fragmented Hard Drive. Fragmented disk can slow down computer by making it work harder. You can also automatically run the disk defragmenter system utility from windows to rearrange fragmented files for your hard drive to work efficiently.

To run disk defragmenter:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter

3. Malware Infection. Virus and Spyware infections are components for slow running computer. You have to run a full scan of these programs to determine the possibility of being infected. For preventive purposes, you have to make sure that you have the latest and updated anti-virus and anti-spyware programs running in your computer.

4. Corrupted Registry or Registry Errors. Slow running computer is often traced to a corrupted registry or errors in the registry. As the registry is the core of the computer it is essential to keep it free from errors. But fixing the registry may be too complicated for some as changes in the registry may bring other issues. There are registry fix and cleaner software programs that you can download from the internet to address your registry issues.

Identifying the fundamental components of slow running computer, you can then isolate the problem and tell of one, or a combination, of components are your issue. You can then take the necessary steps in resolving the issue.

To easily resolve your slow running computer after determining the culprit, you may want to download from the internet software programs that are meant to address computer issues such as slow speed. What is good about these software programs is that they are easy to use even for an ordinary person who does not know much about computer problems. And the best part of it all is that if you’re running slowly on your budget as well, you can always download the free version of these software programs.

You and your computer don’t have to run slowly, download the programs fast!

Clean the Computer of Spyware Entries With Reliable Spyware Removal Software

February 18th, 2011 No comments

‘Spyware’ is a term that refers to a very wide category of malicious software that has been intentionally designed to intercept or take partial control of a computer’s operation without the consent of that computer’s owner or lawful user. When the term ‘Spyware’ is taken in a literal sense, it suggests that the software clandestinely monitors the activities of the user operating the computer, however, it has over the years, come to be known as software that hampers the operating systems efficient functioning for the benefit of a third party, usually the person who created the Spyware. By downloading onto a system the Spyware will also make entries in the system registry. While it is imperative to remove the Spyware from the computer it is as imperative to remove all traces from the registry as well. This can be achieved with the help of some anti-Spyware and Adware removal utility such as Spyware removal tool.

How Does It Affect The Computer?

‘Spyware’ is candid software that downloads itself onto a person’s computer and constantly operates in the background and collects personal information of the user. For instance, it will record the entry from the keyboard every time the user enters a username and password or credit card details. The Spyware will monitor and record the information as well as which site the username and password was entered into. It will then mail this information to the host computer that the Spyware came from. In order to do this the Spyware must take over some processor time. It does this by delaying the operation of other programs or applications running on the system. This slows the system down drastically. The system can be revamped with utilities such as Kazaa Spyware removal tool that works as well as any free Spyware removal software.

Are Spyware Removal Utilities Not Enough?

Spyware removal utilities do remove the Spyware from the system they cannot delve into the registry and remove all the entries therein. The registry will have to be scrubbed clean with Trojan and Spyware removal tools specially designed for the purpose. Many of the Spyware entries will be associated with critical system files and so the anti-Spyware program will not delete them from the registry. Only a Spyware Adware remover such as any of the free Adware Spyware removal tools will scan the registry and detect the broken links and determine it they will hamper the efficient operating of the system if they are removed. If the Adware Spyware remover decides that they can be safely removed the entries will be deleted. If the entries are left in the registry they may link up to the site where they came from initially and download the Spyware again.

What is the best download utility to buy, to clean/repair and protect my Registry?

November 25th, 2010 3 comments

A Registry Mechanic (installed on my Desktop) scan showed 24 shared DLL’s, 75 Temporary/Shortcut and 14 Deep Scan problems/errors. Unfortunately, I’m not a computer nerd and so, I don’t know what all that stuff means. I haven’t purchased it (Registry Mechanic/PC Tools), yet. I don’t know what a computer "registry" is.

I’m also receiving prompts telling me I have both application and stop (and some other type of error I don’t remember) errors.

My computer’s security programs consist of the following freeware: Ad-Aware SE Personal; Spybot Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster for malware/anti-spyware purposes; and for a firewall, ZoneAlarm.

I have an unpurchased/not registered Spy Sweeper (Webroot) on my Desktop which I use for scan purposes.

My only registered/purchased (anti-virus) program is AVG Professional, from Czechoslovakia, and I’m in the last year of their two-year program. I have no big complaints about them. If there’s a better one, I’m not aware of it

HELP

I would think you are ok, then.

I use AVG, Spybot, and Ad-aware on my home computer, and have had no problems. Just make sure you clear your cookies frequently, and run those programs at a frequency that would best match how you use your computer. And be careful what sites you go to.

I also use Mozilla Firefox, that has a built-in pop-up blocker. It’s wonderful – and it’s a much better browser than Internet Explorer. Once you learn to tab-browse, you’ll be flying through the net like never before – if you’re not already doing that.
