what info do microsoft need to carry out a three red lights repair?

January 8th, 2013 2 comments

i got a three red lights xbox360 from my friend but when i asked for a repair under warranty they said the warranty doesnt transfer to second users so now i need some of his personal info to get them to take it!! does anyone know what info they ask you for when you call in to get a repair? thanks guys!

They want general address and billing information that was given when he signed up for XBL/registered the console.

The easiest solution is to have him call in the repair instead and then give it to you once returned.

If you are receiving this error, you should run the Microsoft patch (KB884020) for it. Follow the instructions below to do this. Alternatively, you can download a zip file with the patch, registry file, and instructions by clicking here.

1) Download the patch from Microsoft’s site
2) Run the update to install it
3) Run this short Registry fix to complete the update. Type the following lines in Notepad and save the file as FixReg.reg on your desktop, then double click on it to install into your registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec]
"AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002

4) Reboot your computer

If you experience the error message again, reboot your computer first. In most cases this will solve many connectivity issues that are not associated with this SP2 bug.

How can I tell whether a program on my PC has been installed?

December 17th, 2012 3 comments

I have a new PC (with Vista) that came with some pre-loaded programs that I would like to get rid of (NetZero, Earthlink, etc.). They are not listed in the add/remove programs utility, or in the program list. If they were not installed, can I remove them completely by just deleting their folders? How can I tell whether they were installed? I would like to remove all traces of those programs and start with a clean computer.

Installed programs are located in the registry here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Using "Revo Uninstaller" will remove the registry keys.
After the program is uninstalled you can safely delete the program files.

how do I remove the startup programs list in system configuration utility?

December 3rd, 2012 3 comments

I actually uninstalled these programs and they still appear in the startup tab of the sys config utility. plz suggest a way to remove them.

"To get rid of the extra entries you must edit the registry.

Start regedit (Start->Run and type REGEDIT, then press OK).

Browse to HKLM*\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder

Delete any items listed in there that you no longer want shown unchecked in MSConfig

*HKLM refers to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

That said, google ‘clean msconfig’ or somesuch and check out the different suggestions on this. It’s very simple but some peeps are not comfy in the registry. Be careful and you’re alright.

How does registry guard keeps track of when a key is changed.?

November 16th, 2012 1 comment

Softwares like spy bot or kaspersky alerts user whenever there is change in registry. How does it comes to know about it, does it maintains a data base or uses windows hook?

Well, I can’t tell you how they do it, since I don’t have access to their source code. However, I can tell you one possible way it could be done.

Windows allows a program to receive "registry events", which will send messages to your program whenever the registry is accessed/modified.

An other method is by using "hooks", which allow you to be called when certain parts of Windows are accessed. There is a program from SysInternals.com (now owned by Microsoft) called "Process Monitor", which will show you all sorts of information about file and registry events. There is an older program from them called "RegMon", which does just registry stuff. The sysinternals link below includes a "how it works" section.

Before SysInternals.com was bought by Microsoft, many of the utilities included source code. I don’t see RegMon or Process Monitor source code, however. I don’t know if Microsoft removed it, or that one was never made public. The FAQ states "we will no longer offer the Sysinternals source code for download or license".

November 9th, 2012 5 comments

I would like a registry scanning and cleaning for my microsoft windows and I also cannot pay for one right this moment, usually when i lookup a download for free registry cleaner, I usually get the ones that are bullshit which asked me to pay for cleaning soon after free checking.

good free basic one……………http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

better one………………………..http://download.cnet.com/Glary-Utilities/3000-2094_4-10508531.html

I use both of these 2 free programs everyday….both work great…Glary has a bit more features than CC Cleaner……………..

When microsoft repairs your xbox do they check if it has RROD?

November 9th, 2012 1 comment

I want to get my xbox 360 repaired. My warranty is expired. And Im not willing to pay microsoft. If I send in my 360 saying it has 3 RROD would they fix it for free without saying anything? Would they even check to see if it’s broke or what?

Yeah they try it out and see what the problem is. Heres what you do and you cant get into no trouble just play it cool and dont panic.

Go to walmart and buy a new xbox system if you have the reg system arcade system then buy that one. switch the serial tags on the back and if you push in the little lid where you insert your controller theres a serial sticker under there to rip that off of both systems dont put them back on just do the ones on back switch them. then take it back for a full refund of you money. good luck
