How can i fix a corrupted/damaged registry?

December 29th, 2012 5 comments

What is a registry(first of all)?.I have been getting messages popping up saying my registry was damaged/corrupted and that i need to go to this site or another to download this or scan in order to fix it, (though not since they originally did one night, only once) one after another and until i disconnected the internet. I was wondering is this legit? If so, how may i fix this damaged/corrupted registry. I’m running on windows. Help would be appreciated.

It is definitely not legit..

Registry is the vital part of any Windows-based systems. It contains settings of your system and third party applications installed. In most cases, windows won’t boot up properly or may not boot up at all if the registry has been damaged. You have to restore it from a backup (if there is one) or worst rebuild the whole system.

However in your situation, it does not seem to be a corrupted registry but spyware infestation or purely a series of pop-ups as a result of popup blocker being disabled. As advised by others, best way is to not worry about your registry but to enable the built in popup blocker and then run a number of spyware/adware utilities (combination of adaware and spybot search & destroy has been proven to be effective). If problem still persists after, you may want to post back.

Good luck…

Is it sometimes necessary to repair your registry?

Most people I have talked too say leave it alone unless you are a pro, but isn’t there a time when a registry needs to be cleaned, defragged and repaired to speed up your computer and keep it safe?
SO confused by what I read. thanks.

Hi there,

The short answer is "no".

The registry is a text file that can be ‘read’ very quickly. It is very important since all your settings, configurations, installed programs are saved there for stable operation of your computer. If you delete a registry key you had better know exactly what is for and what will happen if it is removed.
If you explore the registry you will no doubt find keys for programs you have installed and later uninstalled. These keys can be removed but they really do no harm to the system.

Defragging the registry probably will make no discernible difference in the speed of your computer.

The third party apps that advertise to "repair" the registry can only scan the registry and compare it to the programs you have installed. After the scan the unneeded registry keys can be removed.
If you think about it; each computer has different hardware and programs installed so it would be practically impossible to design a program that could set up your unique computer in the optimum configuration. A computer programmer could examine your system and configure the registry but no program can "beat" the human brain.

There is one "safe" registry cleaner that I use and it is called Glary Utilities.
I use that but have seen no difference in speed but glary does scan for malware, fix shortcuts, etc..

My advice is to leave the registry alone as long as your computer is operating properly.
The risk is not worth the reward. If you want to do something good for your computer just keep the temporary and other junk files cleaned out. Disk clean will do that or you can download and run CCleaner daily.

Also defrag your hard drive monthly to keep the files in the drive in good order. That will help with the speed of your computer. You can use the built-in defrag utility or download and run Smart Defrag monthly.

Links below for CCleaner, Glary Utilities and Smart Defrag.

Hope this helps,

Network Shared Exchange Database May Get Corrupted

April 2nd, 2011 No comments

Microsoft has designed Exchange server database ideally to work on block level file access via a locally attached system. Placing it on shared network raise chances of corruption and hence EDB repair may be required. This is due to the reason that when this database is attempted to access using file-sharing protocols, there may be few file system features that Exchange Server doesn’t support. However, Exchange 2000 and later versions may show unmounting like problems with the database placed on networked devices; the earlier versions are out of this issue.

However, there are few administrative interfaces to change the database and transaction log file locations, which Exchange Server resist using the database on network But if you get some errors related to file locations and path, don’t force it to set to some invalid location by playing with the registry. This is because, at start you may find a good running database, but the condition may go wrong due to heavy traffic or unreliable network. Here the chances of EDB corruption may rise up to great extent.

On top of this, editing registry can yield the following error message:

“An absent, corrupted, or invalid registry entry was encountered. Reinstall Microsoft Exchange Server. [800FF324]”

Resolve this by redirecting the valid locations for database, instead of recommended reinstallation. Whereas, if you face database corruption with the network placed database use Exchange Server repair mechanism.

Use inbuilt Eseutil utility, if you don’t can digest losing the data in the corrupted pages or else look for some third party help. EDB recovery software retain the feature to impart safe procedure via their read-only conduct. They have the scanning power to offer  Exchange Server recovery for the database.

You would find an interactive interface to work with, hence EDB repair proves easy enough to be carried out by even the less technically skilled user. Choose the one, which is high in skills and best in results.

Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Recovery is the product to grant maximum Exchange Server recovery. This  EDB recovery program is valuable for Exchange Server 5.5, 2000 and 2003.

You would find all the e-mails, notes, journals, tasks, appointments and other objects, repaired and restored with this Exchange Server repair program. The interactivity of the interface is suitable to get easy EDB repair.

Is it worth buying a registry cleaner? If so, what are top picked utilities and why?

February 20th, 2011 10 comments

I’m running Windows 7 (64-bit).
I used CCleaner and I didn’t find it to solve most of my directory problems. When I was running a program called Registry Mechanic is found a lot of errors, most of which were errors caused from uninstalling. I have a external hard drive and back up my computer regularly.
So why it when I use third party applications that they seem to detect more problems in my registry?

There are actually many good free registry cleaners that work equally well. Here is a nice list of 5 best free registry cleaners:

Clean the Computer of Spyware Entries With Reliable Spyware Removal Software

February 18th, 2011 No comments

‘Spyware’ is a term that refers to a very wide category of malicious software that has been intentionally designed to intercept or take partial control of a computer’s operation without the consent of that computer’s owner or lawful user. When the term ‘Spyware’ is taken in a literal sense, it suggests that the software clandestinely monitors the activities of the user operating the computer, however, it has over the years, come to be known as software that hampers the operating systems efficient functioning for the benefit of a third party, usually the person who created the Spyware. By downloading onto a system the Spyware will also make entries in the system registry. While it is imperative to remove the Spyware from the computer it is as imperative to remove all traces from the registry as well. This can be achieved with the help of some anti-Spyware and Adware removal utility such as Spyware removal tool.

How Does It Affect The Computer?

‘Spyware’ is candid software that downloads itself onto a person’s computer and constantly operates in the background and collects personal information of the user. For instance, it will record the entry from the keyboard every time the user enters a username and password or credit card details. The Spyware will monitor and record the information as well as which site the username and password was entered into. It will then mail this information to the host computer that the Spyware came from. In order to do this the Spyware must take over some processor time. It does this by delaying the operation of other programs or applications running on the system. This slows the system down drastically. The system can be revamped with utilities such as Kazaa Spyware removal tool that works as well as any free Spyware removal software.

Are Spyware Removal Utilities Not Enough?

Spyware removal utilities do remove the Spyware from the system they cannot delve into the registry and remove all the entries therein. The registry will have to be scrubbed clean with Trojan and Spyware removal tools specially designed for the purpose. Many of the Spyware entries will be associated with critical system files and so the anti-Spyware program will not delete them from the registry. Only a Spyware Adware remover such as any of the free Adware Spyware removal tools will scan the registry and detect the broken links and determine it they will hamper the efficient operating of the system if they are removed. If the Adware Spyware remover decides that they can be safely removed the entries will be deleted. If the entries are left in the registry they may link up to the site where they came from initially and download the Spyware again.

Registry Cleaners Review – Eusing ™

January 15th, 2011 No comments

What is it?

For many years, Eusing registry cleaner has established itself as a reliable piece of software in the highly competitive market of registry utilities.

It is a reliable, malware-free registry cleaner that can be downloaded online free. Many users have reported that Eusing had found and repaired registry errors even where other utilities failed to pick them.

Why we like it

First Eusing is free. While some of its competitors will charge you up to $50 for a registry package, Eusing scans your registry, removes duplicate objects and repairs missing entries, and backs up the registry, all free.

Another plus, is the easy-to-use interface. Virtually anyone can download and run Eusing without first going for a training session. It is ideal for those of us who are technologically challenged.

Is Eusing safe

Well actually that is a good question. Lately the utility was listed as rogue application. Despite the assurances of its creators, it was feared that Eusing facilitate malware invasion (while the registry cleaner itself is virus and malware-free). In all fairness however, there are no known reports of malware invasion caused by Eusing.

Another negative feature is the nagware: the silly dialogue box that constantly reminds you to register the package. Then again, if you don’t like it, you can always get rid of it by buying the commercial package.

Finally no registry cleaner is really 100% reliable, despite what its developpers may tell you: all are third-party utilities and the possibility still exists that they get confused and remove shared registry entries. Hence the importance, to have on the registry cleaner a feature that allows you to review registry objects that the utility intends removing before it actually goes on and delete them.

Registry Utilites Review – Regcure ™

December 29th, 2010 No comments

What is it

Regcure is one of the best-known commercial registry cleaners.

Why you will like it

Regcure is one of the complete registry package you will find in the market. Its features are quite impressive:

  • Registry backup before any change
  • Font file repair (for word processing applications)
  • Dll file repair
  • Routine registry maintenance etc.
  • Option of reviewing entries before the utility actually delete them
  • Resolving and updating application paths (that is when you have moved the location of an application and its shortcut battles to locate it).
  • Uninstall entries. These are common source of headache: old registry entries that did not go away when you uninstalled the application.

These are only a few of its wide range of features. Regcure will be particularly useful to someone looking for a complete registry repair package. You hardly find more complete and comprehensive package.

Why there is better

A “Regcure sucks” Google search reveals quite an interesting history of customer frustration. It goes from “they took my money and wouldn’t let me download the utility” to “Regcure deleted even vital registry objects”.

In all fairness however, complaints about a registry cleaner deleting important registry entries are common to most registry cleaners and can be put to the fact that they are all third-party applications: they tend to get confused and remove share registry entries.

Another common complaint about Regcure is the complete absence of live support. You can always send through a support email but at $30 a download, it’s fair to expect some form of live support from the developers.

Finally, let me add that Regcure is quite pricey, especially considering that there are a couple of excellent registry cleaners available for free download online.
